Dr. Lauri Safford

Veterinarian

Dr. Lauri Safford graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 2013, though her journey to become a veterinarian was neither short nor easy.

Dr. Lauri’s interest in becoming a veterinarian began as a 7-year-old child when her grandad asked her to hold the new family kitten so he could neuter it. That’s simply how things were done on a farm at that time. After growing up and going through other adventures life had planned for her, Dr. Lauri made her way back to the veterinary field after having three sons.

In 2005, Dr. Lauri started her veterinary career as a certified veterinary technician. After only two years of working as a veterinary technician, she knew she was destined to do more. Dr. Lauri went back to college to finish her Bachelor’s degree, and in 2013, graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine as a veterinarian. Unfortunately, Dr. Lauri lost her oldest son too early in life at the age of 16. Still, she continues to help animals every day, knowing that the support of her son is what helped her become a veterinarian.

Clinically, Dr. Lauri particularly likes to perform spay and neuter surgeries. By doing these surgeries, she enjoys directly impacting rescue organizations and helping to control pet populations, and helping animals get adopted. Aside from these surgical cases, Dr. Lauri is proud to help pet parents give their pets a peaceful ending to their life when the time comes. Dr. Lauri feels this is the most important part of a pet’s life, and she’s passionate about supporting the family with their immense love for their pets during this difficult time.

When Dr. Lauri isn’t at work helping animals, she enjoys spending time with her husband, two sons, and her animals, two dogs and four cats. Dr. Lauri also has an interest in music and singing. In the warmer months, she enjoys gardening, though not so much the weeding.
